Does every child that registers for a STAGE 2 workshop or drama camp get in the show?
YES! Every teen that signs up is AUTOMATICALLY in the show. Why do we do this? Because many teens don't feel that they 'shine' when they audition because of nerves. 90% of the teens we talk to say nervousness is the main reason they feel they're not getting cast. They have a good point. After all, how can you become a better performer if you don't get cast? Signing up and AUTOMATICALLY being IN the show lifts the 'nervous' burden so the teen can get down to the business of performing and growing as a performer.
You see, when most theater companies do workshops or camps, the kids never see the stage. We teach the kids about the stage by PUTTING THEM ON THE STAGE from day one. We audition the kids the first day, (after teaching them a song - if the show is musical), and then we then cast the show. By the end of the first class the kids leave class with their role in the show and their script in their hand. I've given you MANY reasons as to why the kids love these workshops and camps, now I'll let you know why the parents love them: The kids get the full benefit of putting a show up without Mom or Dad having to taxi them to rehearsals every night of the week. Most companies have between 25 and 40 rehearsals! AHHH! That's a lot of rehearsals! Most of our STAGE 2 WORKSHOPS and DRAMA CAMPS have no more than 12 rehearsals. Drama Camps rehearse in the summer during the day and the workshops rehearse mostly on the weekend.
This is why most parents LOVE our two formats - it doesn't monopolize their lives.
The STAGE 2 Workshop and Drama Camps are a whole new way to develop the performer's skills until they feel comfortable and confident enough to show what they can do. It's also a perfect place for the confident auditioner to hone their skills while waiting for the next audition.
But don't mis-understand, the teen MUST BE WILLING TO WORK and STRETCH THEMSELVES as a performer. This is what separates the STAGE 2 concept from our youth companies: A more intensive, professional rehearsal process. Performers who are there to 'socialize' will be removed from the STAGE 2 workshop or camp.
Other than the enrollment fee what else will I be paying for?
As stated above, the participation fee for our workshops is $100.00 and the two week Camp is $225.00. This fee is non-refundable after the first day of class. Every participant is required to sell 10 tickets to the show they are in. Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors and students and $5.00 for children under 12. Ticket purchasing information will be handed out the first day of class. Workshop and Camp shows will be presented in our BEAUTIFUL Broadway Theater. The Broadway is a 49 seat theater that wraps around the stage like a horseshoe and rises up 4 rows. The Broadway is the space we stage our adult shows during the season. It seems fitting that since the kids are entering STAGE 2 of their career they graduate to a larger, more professional space.
You don't have to buy a costume for your child - We take care of that. The only costume items you will provide in most cases will be shoes, socks or tights. However, there are special instances when we need the kids to bring in a pair of pants or shirt from home because we know they will fit them. We take care of everything else. No other hidden fees. We also give the kids a FREE cast photo and we provide a mini-cast party for the kids.
